The Maven Story
maven noun
a person with special knowledge or experience; an expert.
That’s where the name came from and really, where this whole idea begins!
Â
I’m Jess, a home-educating mum here in the Mid West,
and Maven started with my own family.

I wanted my kids to learn from people who actually do the things they were learning about... to meet experts, visit workplaces, try real skills and discover things I couldn’t necessarily teach them myself.
But those opportunities weren’t always easy to find.

When I started approaching local businesses, organisations and people, I was surprised by how often they said yes.
I began organising opportunities for other homeschool families too, and realised our community isn’t short of people with knowledge and experience worth sharing!Â
Â
We already have the mavens.

What was missing was a simple way to connect them with homeschool families.
Sometimes Maven helps families access an opportunity that already exists. Sometimes we work with someone to create something specifically for our kids.
Â
Maven takes care of the organising, communication and coordination that makes those connections practical.

For families, that means less time searching and emailing, and more chances for our kids to learn from real people, in real places, doing real things.

Maven is beginning here in Geraldton and the Mid West, because this is our community and it’s where I’ve already seen how much is possible.
And this is only the beginning!
